Bonded Asbestos Removal
Bonded asbestos is the material most commonly found on commercial and industrial buildings: sheeting, cladding, eaves and flooring where the fibres are held in a cement or resin matrix. It is stable until it is cut, drilled, broken or weathered. Then it is not.
Overview
Stable Until It Is Disturbed
Bonded material carries a lower immediate risk than friable, which is why so much of it is still in service. That is also why it gets damaged during maintenance, strip-outs and demolition by trades who did not know it was there.
We remove it whole wherever the structure allows, because intact sheets release far less than broken ones. Where it has already deteriorated, the controls step up to match the condition of the material, not its label.

Process
How a Bonded Removal Runs
Scope and identify
We attend site, review any asbestos register and reports you hold, and define exactly what is being removed and what is staying.
Notify and plan
A site-specific removal control plan and safe work method statement are prepared. Where the work is notifiable, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is notified.
Set up controls
Exclusion zones, signage, hoarding and decontamination arrangements are established before any material is touched.
Remove intact
Sheets come off whole where the structure allows. Wetting and dust suppression run throughout. Nothing is broken for convenience.
Wrap and load
Material is double wrapped, labelled and loaded to a lined, sheeted trailer for transport to a facility licensed to receive it.
Clear and hand over
The area is cleaned, inspected and released, with the documentation for your file.
Compliance
The Paperwork You Get
Asbestos removal control plan. Site-specific, prepared before work starts, covering the material, its condition and the controls selected for it.
Safe work method statement. The method, the plant, the exclusion zones and the decontamination arrangements, written for your site rather than lifted from a template.
Waste tracking and disposal records. Where the load is tracked, you receive the documentation showing where the material went and who received it.
Clearance, with independence where it counts. Clearance is part of what we deliver. On work we are removing ourselves, it is carried out by an independent licensed asbestos assessor or competent person we engage, so the certificate that closes your file is never issued by the crew that did the work.
Questions
Bonded Asbestos Questions
Is bonded asbestos safe to leave in place?
Often, yes, if it is in sound condition, undamaged and not going to be disturbed. Asbestos that is stable and managed can be safer left alone than removed badly. The decision changes the moment the building is being altered, stripped or demolished, or the material has started to weather and break down.
Do I need a licensed removalist for bonded material?
In Queensland, quantity and material type determine the licence required. Rather than work to a threshold, we hold a Class A licence, which covers friable and bonded asbestos in any quantity. That means the same licence covers the job whatever is found once work starts.
What happens if you find friable material mid-job?
Work stops in that area and the controls are lifted to friable standard before it resumes. Because our licence already covers friable removal, this does not mean a second contractor, a second mobilisation or a gap in your programme.
How long does a bonded removal take?
It depends on the area, the height, the access and whether the building stays operational around the work. We give you a programme with the quote rather than a number over the phone.
The other half of the licence
Friable Asbestos Removal
Loose, crumbling or fire-damaged material needs enclosure, negative pressure and a higher order of control. That is the Class A side of the licence.
We are set up for commercial, industrial and public-sector work, and that is where our plant and crews spend their time. We do take residential enquiries, and if you have asbestos on a house we will either help or tell you who should.
Not sure what you have?
Send through what you know and we will tell you what it looks like and what it would take.
